Breakfast Briefing: Iluka Resources, IronClad Mining & Murray Zircon

A huge crowd of around 200 attended the second SACOME Breakfast Briefing event for 2013 to hear updates on three key South Australian projects - two operating and one developing. 

Steve Wickham, General Manager - Australian Operations, Iluka Resources, presented on the challenges of operating in a cyclical global market, with specific reference to the Jacinth-Ambrosia mine in South Australia. As the world’s largest producer of zircon, Mr Wickham explained how the GFC and other market conditions impacted the company and how they adapted to the peaks and troughs of the global market since 2008. He also discussed Iluka’s approach to conserving cash and maintaining balance sheet strength.

Ian Finch, Executive Chairman, IronClad Mining Limited, updated guests on the company's key project, Wilcherry Hill, located 45km north of Kimba on the Northern Eyre Peninsula. Mr Finch discussed how the Wilcherry Hill iron ore project - an 80:20 joint venture between IronClad and Trafford Resources Limited - will produce a premium quality, Direct Shipping Ore product for sale to international steel mills. He showed guests a successfully trialled loading of containerised iron ore from a land base to an off-shore vessel that the operation will use to ship its DSO from Lucky Bay. Mr Finch said the company was close to production, only needing $20 million of investment to being production,

Patrick Mutz, Chief Executive Officer, Murray Zircon, presented to guests on the recently re-opened Mindarie Mineral Sands Project located 150km east of Adelaide in the Mallee region of South Australia. Mr Mutz discussed the current operations - which began in October 2012 with first production in December 2012 - and the company's 'rehabilitate as you go' scheme. He relayed positive feedback from the community and landholder's successful cropping on rehabilitated land.
