The South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy (SACOME) CEO, Rebecca Knol, is presenting today to the Large Format Retail Association (LFRA) in Brisbane on SACOME's flagship electricity buying group.
SACOME received full authorisation from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission earlier this year in May, enabling 22 major electricity users in South Australia to collectively negotiate a long-term supply contract.
The group’s combined load of 267 MW makes up 16% of South Australia’s total load, comprising members across the mining, food and wine, agriculture, manufacturing, retail and tertiary education sectors.
Today’s presentation to the LFRA provides another cross-sector collaboration opportunity for SACOME. The LFRA announced earlier this week that its big box retailer members were looking at collective bargaining to reduce power costs – mirroring SACOME’s electricity buying group concept.
SACOME CEO Rebecca Knol said “SACOME continues to be the key industry body representing mining and energy in South Australia. Our flagship electricity buying group has not only expanded our sector reach to benefit South Australian business, but is providing insight nationally.”
